Paula Salischiker's Lencticular Art

A lie. A tale. A truth.

The Tenderproduct shop window showcases and introduces two new artists to the product shop family: photographer Paula Salischiker and jewellery designer Zoe Duthie. This dynamic duo employs the use of found photographs in their work: Paula is intrigued by the way in which the superposition of two instances can somehow fill the gap between subsequent moments and she has been working with lenticular technology to interrogate this phenomenon; Zoe creates photo-etched jewellery, which attempts to convey a story or hold a memory.

For the Window exhibition at Tenderproduct, Zoe Duthie has created a limited edition collection of five silver and gold brooches inspired by Paula’s original found photos of an unknown German family. By adopting the technique of photo-etching into her designs, Zoe transfers the quiet beauty of these images onto silver and gold embellishing the imagery with her own contemporary style and designs. She has selected her favourite images from the German family series and has incorporated them into a selection of stunning jewellery. Each brooch explores family connections and ties, whilst also referencing the fragmented original unknown stories behind these photos.

Paula has created a limited edition lenticular photograph series from rediscovered images; the artist has been collecting multiple anonymous family album images for severalyears now. The characters in these series often photographed one other identically positioned within the same setting, producing a bizarre series of  double-take photographs. Salischiker’s lenticulars destroy the photographic essence of fixed imagery, giving birth to a hybrid that reconstructs a dead moment. These once real images become part of a new fictional narrative. Each new image is static yet simultaneously in flux, acting not only as proof of the past, but as an alternative interpretation of it.
