Tenderproduct's Traverse Tourist (London Design Festival 2010)

Tenderproduct's Traverse Tourist (London Design Festival 2010)

Tenderproduct and Tenderpixel present, in conjunction with the London Design Festival, a play on practice incorporating the global in the local. The Traverse Tourist exhibition invites artists and designers from several countries to create a limited edition object for Tenderproduct. These items will be installed in the shop’s window. Additionally, Tenderpixel’s Collector Showroom, in the basement of Tenderproduct, will become a multi-media exhibition where the artists and designers present an art-object(s) from their practice. Traverse Tourist plays with the lure of the local within a global metropolis and hyper-connected world. Souvenirs become blurred as practitioners simultaneously explore both product object and art object–all from the perspective of having called London home. Artists and designers are Akiko Ban, Lizzie Cannon, Sunshine Frère, Jang-Oh Hong, JL Murtaugh, Keh Ng, Tarpan Patel and Jenny Pickett.

Running from 9-26 September
Private View on 9th of  September 6-9pm

SERGE JUPIN’SR O B O T F A C T O R Y

JUNE 22 – JULY 13

Tenderproduct shop is very pleased to present Robot Factory, a new window exhibition/product display designed by Serge Jupin. Robot Factory’s kinetic sculptures literally give objects a whole new lease on life. Fashioned from found objects and recycled vintage materials, this wonderful ‘unique-piece’ collection of figures quietly clicks and whirs from a distance. It is only on a closer inspection that each robot’s humble origins (discarded objects such as little electronic items, rivets, bolts, and other everyday refuse) are revealed lending wit and poetry to each quirky mechanical assembly. The result: a perfect retro-futuristic design.

For Tenderproduct, the artist has created two unique kinetic mini-robot models: Mr. Mouche and Mr. Watson (available in our online shop). Both are solar-powered kinetic sculptures. Serge manages to ‘input’ personality into each entity; when watching one spring into action from the rays of the sun, it is amazing how fast a bond of attachment can be made. These little characters will be available at Tenderproduct shop throughout the exhibition, and will remain part of the Tenderproduct collection afterwards. Also on display are medium and large-scale automatons hand-crafted by the artist.

PAULA SALISCHIKER & ZOE DUTHIE

Paul Salischiker's Lencticular Art

Paula Salischiker's Lencticular Art

A lie. A tale. A truth.

The Tenderproduct shop window showcases and introduces two new artists to the product shop family: photographer Paula Salischiker and jewellery designer Zoe Duthie. This dynamic duo employs the use of found photographs in their work: Paula is intrigued by the way in which the superposition of two instances can somehow fill the gap between subsequent moments and she has been working with lenticular technology to interrogate this phenomenon; Zoe creates photo-etched jewellery, which attempts to convey a story or hold a memory.

For the Window exhibition at Tenderproduct, Zoe Duthie has created a limited edition collection of five silver and gold brooches inspired by Paula’s original found photos of an unknown German family. By adopting the technique of photo-etching into her designs, Zoe transfers the quiet beauty of these images onto silver and gold embellishing the imagery with her own contemporary style and designs. She has selected her favourite images from the German family series and has incorporated them into a selection of stunning jewellery. Each brooch explores family connections and ties, whilst also referencing the fragmented original unknown stories behind these photos.

Paula has created a limited edition lenticular photograph series from rediscovered images; the artist has been collecting multiple anonymous family album images for severalyears now. The characters in these series often photographed one other identically positioned within the same setting, producing a bizarre series of  double-take photographs. Salischiker’s lenticulars destroy the photographic essence of fixed imagery, giving birth to a hybrid that reconstructs a dead moment. These once real images become part of a new fictional narrative. Each new image is static yet simultaneously in flux, acting not only as proof of the past, but as an alternative interpretation of it.

Mixing Art and Science

Mixing Art and Science

Hugh Turvey is recognised internationally for his x-ray works and as one of the worlds few contemporary x-ray artists. He continues to experiment with the new emerging x-ray technologies to produce his imagery for projects and commission. The work is observationally perceived and is a multi-stage process leading to intense detail capture with some overt unique colouring techniques applied by hand.
Hugh Turvey’s experimental x-ray art is now available at Tenderproduct and includes greeting cards and paper-rock-scissors flipbooks. Yay!

THE TENGU ALLSTARS AT TENDERPRODUCT

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Tenderproduct is pleased to announce a new window exhibition/product display designed by Crispin Jones. The window exhibition features the Tengu Allstars: Rotten, Stardust & Woodstock.

These funky creatures have rapidly become part of Mr. Jones’ already well-established and original Tengu product line. The Allstars, according to Mr. Jones, ‘wear their love of music with loud and massive hairstyles’, they also come with a selection of complimentary accessory stickers, to compliment their ‘look’. They live by your computer and react to auditory signal (music, your voice, the dog barking, a telephone – whatever sound they can hear around them). The louder the sound, the more frantically their faces animate. Tengu All Stars connect to the USB port of your computer for energy, they are otherwise very self-sufficient not requiring any additional software on the host machine. They are both Mac and PC compatible. Rotten, Stardust and Woodstock will swing into action inside the Tenderproduct Windowspace and passers by will be invited to watch their collective performance, singing, sleeping, and making amusing Tengu facial expressions.
