Tenderproduct and Tenderpixel present, in conjunction with the London Design Festival, a play on practice incorporating the global in the local. The Traverse Tourist exhibition invites artists and designers from several countries to create a limited edition object for Tenderproduct. These items will be installed in the shop’s window. Additionally, Tenderpixel’s Collector Showroom, in the basement of Tenderproduct, will become a multi-media exhibition where the artists and designers present an art-object(s) from their practice. Traverse Tourist plays with the lure of the local within a global metropolis and hyper-connected world. Souvenirs become blurred as practitioners simultaneously explore both product object and art object–all from the perspective of having called London home. Artists and designers are Akiko Ban, Lizzie Cannon, Sunshine Frère, Jang-Oh Hong, JL Murtaugh, Keh Ng, Tarpan Patel and Jenny Pickett.

Tenderproduct is pleased to present a new window exhibition by designer Aimee Furnival and A Studio For Design. Furnival, in collaboration with emerging illustrators, created PostCarden a fantastic new product designed to bring the joy of gardening to your home or work. PostCarden acts as both a gift and a friendly postable greeting card. It is a fun and simple way to grow a mini-garden at your desktop, windowsill or sideboard, bringing some green into your life. PostCarden comes in three design variations:

A mini living garden

An escape to the sanctuary of your allotment courtesy of Sophie Burdess; Sophie is a London based illustrator working within the realm of publishing and on several other freelance projects.

A mini living botanical garden

An experience of botanical garden grandeur courtesy of Krista Nyberg; Krista is a graphic designer working across all medias of print, web and illustration. Her client list includes the Guardian, Vogue and DJ Magazine. She is based in Stokholm, but also works for London based companies.

A mini living green city

A city landscape brought to life with plush green splendor courtesy of Millie Harey; Millie lives and works in London, her passion lies in filmmaking and she co-runs her own production company Paddington & Millie. She has extensive experience and knowledge in animation, set design, illustration and art direction.

Each PostCarden contains the cardboard scene, inner growing tray, packet of cress seeds and step-by-step growing instructions. The contents come tidily tucked into PostCarden?s unique packaging, featuring the artist illustrations on one side and a postcard-style space for the recipient?s address and sender?s greeting on the other. The mini-garden that you grow is also edible and delicious! Enjoy! Postcarden is printed in Wales and uses locally sourced cress seeds and inner-packaging material.

A lie. A tale. A truth.

The Tenderproduct shop window showcases and introduces two new artists to the product shop family: photographer Paula Salischiker and jewellery designer Zoe Duthie. This dynamic duo employs the use of found photographs in their work: Paula is intrigued by the way in which the superposition of two instances can somehow fill the gap between subsequent moments and she has been working with lenticular technology to interrogate this phenomenon; Zoe creates photo-etched jewellery, which attempts to convey a story or hold a memory.

For the Window exhibition at Tenderproduct, Zoe Duthie has created a limited edition collection of five silver and gold brooches inspired by Paula’s original found photos of an unknown German family. By adopting the technique of photo-etching into her designs, Zoe transfers the quiet beauty of these images onto silver and gold embellishing the imagery with her own contemporary style and designs. She has selected her favourite images from the German family series and has incorporated them into a selection of stunning jewellery. Each brooch explores family connections and ties, whilst also referencing the fragmented original unknown stories behind these photos.

Paula has created a limited edition lenticular photograph series from rediscovered images; the artist has been collecting multiple anonymous family album images for severalyears now. The characters in these series often photographed one other identically positioned within the same setting, producing a bizarre series of double-take photographs. Salischiker’s lenticulars destroy the photographic essence of fixed imagery, giving birth to a hybrid that reconstructs a dead moment. These once real images become part of a new fictional narrative. Each new image is static yet simultaneously in flux, acting not only as proof of the past, but as an alternative interpretation of it.

These funky creatures have rapidly become part of Mr. Jones’ already well-established and original Tengu product line. The Allstars, according to Mr. Jones, ‘wear their love of music with loud and massive hairstyles’, they also come with a selection of complimentary accessory stickers, to compliment their ‘look’. They live by your computer and react to auditory signal (music, your voice, the dog barking, a telephone – whatever sound they can hear around them). The louder the sound, the more frantically their faces animate. Tengu All Stars connect to the USB port of your computer for energy, they are otherwise very self-sufficient not requiring any additional software on the host machine. They are both Mac and PC compatible. Rotten, Stardust and Woodstock will swing into action inside the Tenderproduct Windowspace and passers by will be invited to watch their collective performance, singing, sleeping, and making amusing Tengu facial expressions.
